Work out a percentage of a number, a percent change, a discount or a grade — and see the arithmetic behind every answer. Percentages trip people up in the same five places. Here is each one, with the arithmetic written out so you can follow it rather than memorise it. A percentage is a fraction with 100 on the bottom. "Per cent" is Latin for "by the hundred", so 15% means 15 out of every 100. That single idea is behind all four calculators above. Because 15% is just another way of writing 0.15, every percentage question turns into an ordinary multiplication or division once you divide by 100. Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations.
