Phase – open-source encryption and key management for developers
Hello HN! We are developers and security researchers making tools for developers to encrypt data at an application level while maintaining sole control of their keys. We believe that data should always be encrypted unless it is part of an active computation. Encryption is relatively easy, but key management is challenging. There are plenty of encryption tools and SDKs that are out there (Hashicorp Vault, AWS KMS etc.) but we are focusing on ease and speed of implementation, developer experience and self custody of keys. A few months ago, we quit our jobs and started full time on Phase. So…

In the maker’s words, at launch
So far, we have created a dashboard to create, manage and deploy keys, a key management service (KMS) to serve encrypted shards of a private key to an app during each decrypt operation as well as SDKs for JS, Node and Python. Give it a try (https://github.com/phasehq/console)! We’d love to hear what you think! Website: https://phase.dev/ Docs: https://docs.phase.dev/

- SESecure end-to-end client sessions and API calls using crypto key pairs2022 · github.com · ▲9
Hello. I made this project as an experiment in using key cryptography for user identity in a client server model, and for some future peer to peer projects that I am working on. I am looking for feedback, please let me know what you think. Also, Merry Christmas to HN! :-)

Hi HN, I’m Sean, the founder of Ascend.io (https://www.ascend.io). I’m really excited to post here and announce the launch of Ascend.io, a radical new way of designing, scaling, and automating data pipelines. Ascend is the result of nearly 4 years of development effort for a team that is now 30-strong, and I would love for you to give it a test drive and let me what you think. I’ve felt this pain since I wrote my first MapReduce in 2004 (using Sawzall @ Google), and in the 15 years since, things have not improved at the pace of other parts of the technology ecosystem. When I went…
- KCKeyEnv – CLI-first secrets manager for dev teams (Rust)Jan 2026 · keyenv.dev · ▲5
Hi HN, I built KeyEnv because I was tired of the "can you Slack me the Stripe key?" workflow. The problem: My team's secrets lived in a mix of Slack DMs, shared Google Docs, and .env files that definitely weren't in .gitignore at some point. Enterprise tools like Vault required more DevOps time than we had. Doppler was close but felt heavier than we needed. What KeyEnv does: keyenv init # link project keyenv pull # sync secrets to local .env keyenv run -- npm start # inject secrets, run command That's basically it. Secrets are encrypted client-side (AES-256-GCM) before leaving your machine.…

Heya HN, I've been working on a reddit-like platform as my primary side project for the last few years. Doing a (very) soft launch today, mainly because I want to use it to encourage discussion of alternatives. How non.io works: 1. Free to browse, paid to interact. 2. Minimum subscription is $2 (though you can choose more). I take $1 to run the servers, everything left gets split evenly between everything you upvote that month. It's a simple model, but I hope it's a better one than the freemium model we've been relying on for the last few years. Fundamentally I feel like any ad-supported…
