PhotoSort for Mac

Sort photos by file size and quality

PhotoSort for Mac launched on June 12, 2025 with 11 votes, #2,422 of 7,999 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

What it does

PhotoSort saves you $$$ by shrinking your iCloud storage needs and tidying up your Photos library: It sorts by file size, so you can see what's filling up iCloud storage (and offload unneeded big files). It sorts by quality, so you can enjoy your best shots.

Your iCloud storage is full, but you can't sort Photos by file size or quality to see what stays and what goes? Let PhotoSort get it sorted.

Every photo and video you take - and every screenshot, meme or QR code you save - gets saved in iCloud and all your devices. If your iCloud storage is full, you can't check which large photos or videos are the biggest space hogs - nor can you separate the good stuff from the rubbish. PhotoSort's SizeSort album tells you all you need to decide what stays and what goes. You can choose what to export to your Mac or external drive and delete from Photos. Never see the 'iCloud Storage is Full" message again, or be forced to upgrade iCloud storage. Keep your Photos library and iCloud storage lean and clean. Apple's Photos app doesn't really help you check which photos are your best, which need…from photosort-app.com

macOS app PhotoSort could help reduce your monthly iCloud bill2025 · ▲6

PhotoSort does two simple things that Apple Photos (deliberately?) doesn't. It sorts your iCloud and Mac Photos library by file size and aesthetic quality. This lets you find not just your best photos, but also large, unwanted photos and videos filling up your iCloud storage, and the hundreds of useless screenshots and forgettable photos cluttering up your Photos library. PhotoSort creates two albums in the Photos app: SizeSort and QualitySort. The first identifies the biggest space hogs that you could offload to reduce storage; the second separates your best shots from the mediocre and…

I am a developer. I have been building stuff for the last 13 years. One common challenge in all my projects is compressing assets to make them as small as possible. I used to end up using online compressors, but this has a lot of privacy concerns. So, I finally set down for couple of weeks and built this simple app. I can just drag and drop assets in it and it shrinks them. It currently supports around 25 file types. I built a lot of iOS apps but this is the first time building a macOS app, so any feedback is welcome.

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

  • I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
