Plasma Physics GPT

Here's a simple RAG using MongoDB Atlas and Radiant geared towards plasma physics graduate students. Having been a plasma physicist in a past life my hope is this tool will be useful for anyone new to the field who is heads down reading existing literature. So far I have ingested a few papers I read in grad school, as well as my PhD thesis, but am happy to add more. Just let me know!

In plain words

Plasma Physics GPT is a retrieval-augmented generation tool built with MongoDB Atlas and Radiant for plasma physics graduate students. It allows users to search and learn from a collection of academic papers and a PhD thesis in the field. The tool is designed to help newcomers quickly reference existing literature while studying the subject, with the creator open to adding more documents to the knowledge base upon request.

Hi HN! I've found this visualization tool immensely helpful over the years for getting an intuition for how an LLM "sees" some piece of text, and with a bit of elbow grease decided to move all compute to client side so I could make it publicly available. I've found it particularly useful for - Understanding exactly how repetition and patterns affect a small LM's ability to predict correctly - Understanding different tokenization patterns and how it affects model output - Getting a general sense of how "hard" different prediction tasks are for GPT-style models Known problems (that I probably…

Hello fellow hackers, we made a site that gets GPT to answer your question using the info on a webpage you specify or document you upload (e.g., a large textbook .pdf file). Background: When ChatGPT came out, I had the idea of having it pull answers from my stereo receiver's annoyingly dense 32 page manual. My weekend project prototype proceeded to surprise with great answers—just like what we've all experienced by now. My co-founder thought we should productize it, and make it easy to use online. So here we are with a very early beta! (Try it on a HN thread...)

  • Hi HN! I’m proud to share that we have built a real 3rd party iMessage client for Android. We did it by reverse engineering the iMessage protocol and encryption system. It's available to download today (no waitlist): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima and there's a technical writeup here: https://blog.beeper.com/p/how-beeper-mini-works. Unlike every other attempt to build an iMessage app for Android (including our first gen app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac server relay in the cloud. The app connects directly to Apple…

  • Hey! I made Heynote entirely for my own use case. For many years, I always had an Emacs instance running with the scratch buffer open, even long after I had abandoned Emacs as my programming editor in favor of more recent IDE:s. The simplicity of having just one big scratch buffer appeals to me, but I still want to separate the different things I jot down somehow (without using tabs or similar). Previously, my solution was to insert a bunch of blank lines between the notes, but hitting C-A would still select the entire buffer. That's why I came up with the concept of "blocks", which turned…
