What it does

Render textured 3D meshes in the DOM with CSS. No WebGL or <canvas> needed: each polygon is a real DOM element. Supports OBJ, glTF, GLB, and MagicaVoxel VOX files, including UV textures and material colors. Works with vanilla JS, React, and Vue. < script type = "module" src = "https://esm.sh/@layoutit/polycss/elements" > </ script > How It Works PolyCSS loads OBJ, glTF, GLB, and VOX mesh files. Each polygon becomes a DOM element positioned with transform: matrix3d(...) . UV-textured triangles are packed into generated atlas sprites with CSS background positioning. The browser's compositor handles the 3D layering. The rendered scene is a tree of standard DOM elements: no shadow DOM, no WebGL…from polycss.com

I've been going through Cem Yuksel's "Introduction to Computer Graphics" course and thought that writing a volume renderer would be a good way to test my knowledge. It is a common technique used to render 3D medical data. Works by ray marching a specific step size, reading a 3D texture (e.g. MRI data), and calculating opacity values. Code should be easy to get started with for anyone familiar with the JS ecosystem. Questions for the HN community: I spent 20-25% of the entire time just setting up the project and fighting issues with the JavaScript ecosystem. This experience has made me…

  • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok&#x2F;s prefill and 1200 tok&#x2F;s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
