PowerLab — Energy Planning Tools
energy & solar calculators with visible physical loss models
What it does
PowerLab is a free, zero-database energy planning suite with transparent physical loss models: • Battery & UPS: Real runtime with chemistry DoD (LiFePO4 vs AGM) & inverter tare losses. • Solar PV: Seasonal tilt angles & NREL PVWatts V8 monthly solar output. • EVs: Level 1/2 & DC Fast Charge times with 80% SoC tapering & gas savings. • Home Energy: Appliance wattage audits & electric bills. 100% client-side, zero database tracking, works offline (PWA), and exports 1-page PDF spec sheets.
Deterministic, open energy planning calculators for solar panel output, battery runtime, wire voltage drop, EV charging speeds, and home electricity usage.
Transparent physical loss models with zero database tracking. Monthly kWh production with tilt & PVWatts physical loss modeling. Hourly, monthly & seasonal cooling costs by BTU & SEER2 rating. Exact backup duration in hours for home loads, LiFePO4 & AGM. Range decay modeling under 70+ mph highway speed & cold winter temps. Calculate daily appliance loads, panel counts & battery banks. Calculate charging speeds, costs & annual fuel savings vs gas. Find the optimal tilt angle for your latitude and roof pitch. Calculate running & starting surge watts for emergency backup. Calculate central AC, mini-split & window unit costs per hour and month. Calculate highway range drops from 75 mph speed &…from powelab.org

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
