What it does

Most emergency-prep apps assume you're in the US. PrepperApp doesn't: it detects your region and shows the right emergency number (911, 112, whatever applies). Beyond that: offline maps and GPS-free navigation, peer-to-peer mesh messaging when cell networks are down, family check-ins with a dead man's switch, a household inventory with expiration tracking, offline first-aid guides, an SOS button, and a crisis simulator to practice scenarios. One-time purchase, no subscription.

Add your supplies in ten minutes and see how many days your household can last, and what is still missing. • Family chat: now on iPhone too, and private: only your family members can read it. • "Are you safe?": ask the whole family with one tap, reply from the notification. • Family alert: an SOS or "I need help" notifies your family right away, also from Apple Watch. • Official warnings for your area. • Sign-in methods: link Apple or Google to your account. • Better family sync: shared goal and maintenance tasks, and no more lost changes. • CPR: the rhythm keeps running while you call emergency services. • Emergency…from apps.apple.com

You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

  • Simple algorithm and color space to generate diverse skin tones▲627

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
