Reams

Deeply superficial RSS

Reams launched on March 15, 2022 with 62 votes, #874 of 3,153 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 4 years on.

What it does

I've used RSS for years, but it often felt like a chore to get through instead of a pleasure. Reams makes RSS loveable: it uses a complex layout engine and a little bit of AI to make every story beautiful. It turns your feed into your own personal magazine.

Reams is a serious, joyful and open app for people who love to read

Reams is a new approach to reading on the web, conceived from the ground up to help you find and read more about things you love. With AI-driven layouts, delightful interactions and powerful features, Reams focuses on the immersive pleasures of text and image. Flipping through the newsletters and RSS stories in your feed is like reading a personalised magazine. And because every article looks different, you’re much more likely to remember what you’ve read. Find and add RSS feeds; subscribe to newsletters with your own reams.app email address Add tags to feeds, newsletters or individual articles. Or don’t! Reams uses infernally complex logic, a sprinkling of AI and a whole lot of attention…from reams.app

I wrote an RSS reader called RSS Brain recently. The motivate is the current RSS readers either don't sort articles by priority, which makes it hard to read posts from HackerNews and Reddit, or sort it with some "smart" algorithm which I don't trust. I also like the Google News feature that can show related story from different source, but the sources are not configurable and the algorithm is not transparent either. So with RSS Brain, I implemented these features: * Recommend related articles from the feeds of your choice. It's backed by ElasticSearch and the algorithm is described on RSS…

Hi all! Excited to share rss2newsletter after completing dev work for the initial release. The idea for this project came out of necessity, as I wanted to share my articles via email newsletter. I was looking for a super minimal, lightweight, and open source solution, and when none existed, I decided to create one. For any sizable number of email recipients, a popular platform like Mailchimp will easily cost you hundreds or even thousands per month in per-contact fees. rss2newsletter, on the other hand, allows you to use Amazon SES, so you can reach your audience at pennies on the dollar.…

I’ve been using RSS readers for decades, but they’ve started feeling more and more like a chore. Something about the inbox/to-do list design, counts of unread items, managing teams and complex filtering rules... I realized they add to my stress level instead of reducing it. I’ve also come to rely on social media for discovery – hearing about new ideas, tools, papers, people, etc., but I’m so tired of the ads, spam, addictiveness, and toxicity. Apricot is my attempt to distill the best of both worlds. It’s a web app where users subscribe to feeds like an RSS reader then see new items as…

Hi HN! I made many small web games in the past with Unity or Phaser. But this time I wanted to make something completely on my own. So I coded a basic game framework in plain JavaScript, and used it to make Almost Pong. This was a really fun project that taught me a lot about JavaScript, and I plan to make more minimalist games with this framework. Interesting fact: Almost Pong doesn't load any assets, all sprites and sounds are generated with code. Happy to answer questions, and please let me know if you have any feedback on the game. Thanks!
