I bought the birthdays.app domain a few years ago and decided to build a simple birthday app, just text message reminders. I had hacked together a duct-tape version for myself a couple years prior (using zapier + google sheets), and found it useful. I built a simple service that sends SMS reminders for birthdays. Why? I kept missing birthdays, even with calendar apps. This single-purpose tool is simple and (so far) reliable. Since my texting inbox has a far better signal-to-noise ratio than email or calendar events, it ensures I never miss an important date. Facebook used to serve the same purpose, but it's a dying social graph for me.

For HTML Day 2025 [1], I made a web service that displays the current sky at your approximate location as a CSS gradient. Colours are simulated on-demand using atmospheric absorption and scattering coefficients. Updates every minute, without the use of client-side JavaScript.
