In plain words

RinohType is a Python-based document processor written in approximately 6500 lines of code, offering a modern alternative to LaTeX. It is designed for developers and technical users who need to generate formatted documents programmatically. The tool enables document creation and processing through Python, making it accessible to those already familiar with the language rather than requiring specialized LaTeX knowledge.

From the sources

I originally planned to release RinohType into wild only after I had finished a full review, refactoring and documenting of the code. I also wanted to write some API documentation and a small tutorial, all in the spirit of making a good first impression. Turns out all this takes a huge amount of time! So I’ve decided to dump the code in its current state onto GitHub, write a blog article about it and await some valuable feedback while I resume my refactoring and documenting chore. If you decide to play around with the code, please bear in mind that this is just a preview; your experience might not be as smooth as I intend it to be eventually. Somewhere back in 2009, I was using LaTeX to…from mos6581.org

    OverType – A Markdown WYSIWYG editor that's just a textarea2025 · ▲471

Hi HN! I got so frustrated with modern WYSIWYG editors that I started to play around with building my own. The problem I had was simple: I wanted a low-tech way to type styled text, but I didn't want to load a complex 500KB library, especially if I was going to initialize it dozens of times on the same page. Markdown in a plain was the best alternative to a full WYSIWYG, but its main drawback is how ugly it looks without any formatting. I can handle it, but my clients certainly can't. I went down the ContentEditable rabbit hole for a few years, but always came to realize others had solved it…

Hi HN! This is my pet project, written from scratch because there is so much to discover and learn in the process. The focus is on simplicity and incremental updates. Progress is slow because I do not have much spare time to work on this, but I would love to hear some feedback. Regards

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
