rm-safely – A shell alias that moves files to trash instead of deleting
I made rm-safely, a simple shell wrapper that moves files to trash instead of permanently deleting them. It prevents accidental deletions from autocomplete mishaps or hasty rm -rf commands. Should work as a drop-in replacement for rm but safer. Would appreciate any feedback!

In plain words
rm-safely is a shell alias that replaces the standard rm command by moving files to trash instead of permanently deleting them. It's designed for developers and system users who want protection against accidental data loss from autocomplete errors or hastily executed delete commands. The tool functions as a drop-in replacement for rm, offering the same interface with an added safety layer that prevents irreversible deletions.

Because the rm command does not come with any personal protective equipment. This light shell function makes rm safer, especially the default MacOS rm . By wraping you a safe rm from any accidental deletion of files or directories e.g. accidental autocomplete, sub-shell or script bugs etc. curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/zdk/rm-safely/main/rm-safely | bash -s install You will have the copied of files/dir in the trash first, then you can decide to delete or clean them later on. rm --rm Skip trash!, really execute 'rm' rm --list-trash, -l Show trash contents from all filesystems rm --restore <hash>, -s Restore a file from trash using its hash rm --undo, -u Restore the last…from github.com

I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
