RookDuel Avikal
Chess Powered Security for the Quantum Age
What it does
Avikal is a secure archival system designed for long-term data sovereignty. Unlike standard encryption, Avikal utilizes a hybrid security model: it combines post-quantum cryptography with a unique steganographic engine that encodes encryption metadata into playable chess games. Users can secure files with Hindi mnemonic keyphrases, enforce time-locks via Drand or Aavrit, and manage archives via CLI or Desktop app. It is a robust, indigenous solution built for the future of digital archiving.

- SASameshi – a ~1200 Elo chess engine that fits within 2KBFeb 2026 · github.com · ▲230
I made a chess engine today, and made it fit within 2KB. I used a variant of MinMax called Negamax, with alpha beta pruning. For the board representation I have used a 120-cell "mailbox". I managed to squeeze in checkmate/stalemate in there, after trimming out some edge cases. I am a great fan of demoscene (computer art subculture) since middle school, and hence it was a ritual i had to perform. For estimating the Elo, I measured 240 automated games against Stockfish Elo levels (1320 to 1600) under fixed depth-5 and some constrained rules, using equal color distribution. Then converted…

- TPTermichess – Play chess in your terminal2024 · github.com · ▲50
Hey everyone, I have been trying to build a terminal based app for sometime now and this is an attempt at trying to build a chess app that one can play right inside terminal. I was inspired by `chess-tui`[1] which is a rust based project and was looking to build something similar using python. Luckily I stumbled upon textual[2] recently and it made my task of building this far more easier than I thought. - CRChessterm – Rust-based terminal chess engine for chess notation2025 · github.com · ▲6
Hi HN! I just built chessterm, a Rust-powered TUI chess engine to practice chess notation (PGN) for an upcoming chess competition. This was also a way for me to learn Rust more deeply, particularly bitboards for move generation and terminal UI development with ratatui Unlike typical chess UIs that wrap around Stockfish, this is built completely from scratch, with: - PGN-only input (no AI, just human vs human) - Bitboard-based move generation (u64, precomputed attack masks) - Built with ratatui for a smooth terminal experience Would love to hear your feedback!

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
