I made a chess engine today, and made it fit within 2KB. I used a variant of MinMax called Negamax, with alpha beta pruning. For the board representation I have used a 120-cell "mailbox". I managed to squeeze in checkmate/stalemate in there, after trimming out some edge cases. I am a great fan of demoscene (computer art subculture) since middle school, and hence it was a ritual i had to perform. For estimating the Elo, I measured 240 automated games against Stockfish Elo levels (1320 to 1600) under fixed depth-5 and some constrained rules, using equal color distribution. Then converted…

Hey everyone, I have been trying to build a terminal based app for sometime now and this is an attempt at trying to build a chess app that one can play right inside terminal. I was inspired by `chess-tui`[1] which is a rust based project and was looking to build something similar using python. Luckily I stumbled upon textual[2] recently and it made my task of building this far more easier than I thought. Hi HN! I just built chessterm, a Rust-powered TUI chess engine to practice chess notation (PGN) for an upcoming chess competition. hi HN, While building Wolbarg (an open-source shared memory SDK for AI agents), I assumed PostgreSQL would be the obvious choice for memory storage. After benchmarking SQLite under realistic agent workloads, I was surprised by the results. For local-first and single-node deployments, SQLite handled far more than I expected while keeping the architecture much simpler. I wrote up the benchmarks, methodology, trade-offs, and where I still think PostgreSQL is the better choice.

I’ve been experimenting with structured logic as a way to frame search spaces — not in an academic way, just as a personal project. I wanted to know: what happens if you initialize a brute-force run with a simple equality like xy = x / y? Not as a filter, just as a logical ignition point. I used AES-256-CBC encrypted files with UUID passwords and tested against a 1 million UUID space. It cracked it in under 40 seconds.
