In plain words

RustFS is a file storage system designed as a direct replacement for MinIO. It allows users to migrate from MinIO by simply swapping out the binary, making the transition straightforward for existing deployments. The tool is built with Rust and targets developers and operations teams who need reliable object storage without complex migration procedures.

From the sources

Today we are excited to announce that RustFS has introduced a key feature in the latest release ( 1.0.0-alpha.8 9): users can now migrate from MinIO to RustFS through direct binary replacement. As is widely known, MinIO has archived its open source repository . However, there are still tens of millions of instances worldwide running older open-source versions of MinIO. These versions no longer receive security updates, and over time the security risks associated with these instances continue to grow. RustFS is an S3-compatible distributed object storage system written in Rust and released under the Apache License 2.0. The project has already surpassed 23k stars on GitHub. • Minikv – Distributed key-value and object store in Rust (Raft, S3 API)Feb 2026 · github.com · ▲71

Hi HN, I'm Emilie, I have a literature background (which explains the well-written documentation!) and I've been learning Rust and distributed systems by building minikv over the past few months. It recently got featured in Programmez! magazine: https://www.programmez.com/actualites/minikv-un-key-value-st... minikv is an open-source, distributed storage engine built for learning, experimentation, and self-hosted setups. It combines a strongly-consistent key-value database (Raft), S3-compatible object storage, and basic multi-tenancy. Features/highlights: - Raft…

  • Turbolite – a SQLite VFS serving sub-250ms cold JOIN queries from S3Mar 2026 · github.com · ▲185

I built a SQLite VFS in Rust that serves cold queries directly from S3 with sub-second performance, and often much faster. It’s called turbolite. It is experimental, buggy, and may corrupt data. I would not trust it with anything important yet. I wanted to explore whether object storage has gotten fast enough to support embedded databases over cloud storage. Filesystems reward tiny random reads and in-place mutation. S3 rewards fewer requests, bigger transfers, immutable objects, and aggressively parallel operations where bandwidth is often the real constraint. This was explicitly inspired…

    Asdf Clone Written in Rust2023 · ▲79

I think that asdf (https://asdf-vm.com) was a great idea for a project. It helps consolidate installing and running different programming languages into a similar UX. It also is built with a plugin interface that makes it easy to build support for new languages. However it is so slow. I was just testing `node -v` and it was taking ~900ms. That kind of overhead is completely unusable. My shell prompt uses runtimes inside of it for various things so this effectively makes every command take multiple seconds to complete. So I rebuilt it in Rust but using the same plugin ecosystem so…
