What it does
Copilot like experience with local models. Local models are much less forgiving when you give them the wrong context. If the prompt includes too much irrelevant workspace data, smaller models quickly become slower, less accurate, or start missing the actual problem. Selfcoder tries avoid that by building the request around the specific task instead of blindly pushing too much of the workspace into the prompt. It adapts to the model’s context length and prioritize by available context window
Extension for Visual Studio Code - Local coding agent powered by Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM — Qwen, DeepSeek, Gemma, Llama, Kimi, GLM and more. A self-hosted Copilot alternative.
Run a coding agent through Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM or any OpenAI-compatible server like llama.cpp. A self-hosted Copilot alternative - local, private, and subscription-free. Selfcoder brings self-hosted AI coding workflows into Visual Studio Code without locking you into a hosted subscription. Connect it to LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp, or another OpenAI compatible server, choose a model, and work from a dedicated sidepanel or VS Code native Copilot Chat. It brings AI assistance into your development workflow while giving you control over where code, prompts, files, and workspace context are processed. By default, requests are routed to the backend endpoint you configure, typically a…from marketplace.visualstudio.com

Zencoder 2025 · zencoder.ai · ▲766Hi HN, I’m Andrew, Founder of Zencoder. While building our IDE extensions and cloud agents, we ran into the same issue many of you likely face when using coding agents in complex repos: agents getting stuck in loops, apologizing, and wasting time. We tried to manage this with scripts, but juggling terminal windows and copy-paste prompting was painful. So we built Zenflow, a free desktop tool to orchestrate AI coding workflows. It handles the things we were missing in standard chat interfaces: Cross-Model Verification: You can have Codex review Claude’s code, or run them in parallel to see…
1CodeJan 2026 · github.com · ▲569Just to clarify the background a bit. This project wasn’t planned as a big standalone release at first. On January 16, Ollama added support for an Anthropic-compatible API, and I was curious how far this could be pushed in practice. I decided to try plugging local Ollama models directly into a Claude Code-style workflow and see if it would actually work end to end. Here is the release note from Ollama that made this possible: https://ollama.com/blog/claude Technically, what I do is pretty straightforward: - Detect which local models are available in Ollama. - When…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
