A pm2 alternative built on rust and systemd

Servicer launched on August 15, 2023 with 1 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.

What it does

servicer is a CLI tool to simplify service management on systemd. With an easy-to-use API comparable to pm2, servicer lets users manage services effortlessly. - Start service: `sudo ser create index.js --start --enable` - View status: `ser status`

servicer is a user-friendly CLI tool designed to simplify service management on systemd , abstracting away the complexities of the systemd ecosystem. With an easy-to-use API comparable to popular tools like pm2 , servicer empowers users to create, control, and manage services effortlessly. servicer is lightweight, written in Rust and doesn’t run in the background. It does not fork services nor run a custom logging solution. It is a thin layer on systemd that creates .ser.service files. Logging is handled by journald. Or write your own custom .service file. servicer provides a starter template to get you started quickly. Got an existing service? No problem. Rename your .service file to…from servicer.dev

    Servicer, pm2 alternative built on Rust and systemd2023 · servicer.dev · ▲147

Servicer is a CLI to create and manage services on systemd. I have used pm2 in production and find it easy to use. However a lot of its functionality is specific to node.js, and I would prefer not to run my rust server as a fork of a node process. Systemd on the other hand has most of the things I need, but I found it cumbersome to use. There are a bunch of different commands and configurations- the .service file, systemctl to view status, journald to view logs which make systemd more complex to setup. I had to google for the a template and commands every time. Servicer abstracts this setup…

  • Witr – Explain why a process is running on your Linux systemDec 2025 · github.com · ▲526

Hi HN, I built a small Linux CLI tool called witr (Why Is This Running?). The idea came from a situation most of us have hit: you log into a machine, see a process or port running, and immediately wonder why it exists, who started it, and what is keeping it alive right now. witr traces a process, service, or port back to its origin and responsibility chain and explains it in a way that’s quick to read, especially when you’re debugging under pressure. This is v0.1.0. It’s intentionally small and focused. Feedback, criticism, and edge cases are very welcome. Repo:…

    Interactive systemd – a better way to work with systemd units2025 · isd-project.github.io · ▲546

I created a TUI for systemd/systemctl called isd (interactive systemd). It provides a fuzzy search for units, auto-refreshing previews, smart sudo handling, and a fully customizable, keyboard-focused interface for power users and newcomers alike. It is a more powerful (but heavier) version of sysz, which was the inspiration for the project. This should be a huge timesaver for anybody who frequently interacts with or edits systemd units/services. And if not, please let me know why! :)

  • ServiceRadar – open-source Network Observability Platform2025 · github.com · ▲61

ServiceRadar is an open-source platform for distributed, secure network management and observability, scaling to 100k+ devices. Born from frustration with complex traditional NMS tools like Zabbix, it bridges legacy (SNMP/syslog) and modern (gNMI, OTLP) protocols for cloud-native environments. We built ServiceRadar to simplify monitoring hybrid telecom networks, evolving it into a Kubernetes-native solution with Helm and Docker support. It uses mTLS with SPIFFE/SPIRE, NATS JetStream for event streaming (90M+ EPS), and SRQL for intuitive queries. Integrated with OpenTelemetry,…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Outlines is a Python library that focuses on text generation with large language models. Brandon and I are not LLM experts and started the project a few months ago because we wanted to understand better how the generation process works. Our original background is probabilistic, relational and symbolic programming. Recently we came up with a fast way to generate text that matches a regex (https://blog.normalcomputing.ai/posts/2023-07-27-regex-guide...). The basic idea is simple: regular expressions have an equivalent Deterministic-Finite Automaton (DFA) representation. We…
