Shepherd – open-source tools to manage self-hosted software deployments

Hey HN, I wanted to share something I’ve been working on. My startup previously built B2B SaaS, and large enterprises sometimes wanted to self-host it for data residency reasons - but this was a nightmare to build and support. I chatted to other builders/founders and it seems this pain is pretty common. But people tolerate it because the biggest customers often require self-hosting. So we’ve built and open-sourced Shepherd to make it easier to manage these self-hosted deployments. What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

I chatted to other builders/founders and it seems this pain is pretty common. But people tolerate it because the biggest customers often require self-hosting. So we’ve built and open-sourced Shepherd to make it easier to manage these self-hosted deployments. It’s MIT licensed, and provides: 1 - Simplified deployment with a UI to create and manage Helm charts, for easy deployment to customer Kubernetes clusters 2 - Automated deployment upgrades to improve version consistency and provide rollbacks 3 - Deployment health monitoring Try it and please share any feedback: Github repo - https://github.com/contextco/shepherd Demo video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pelVQx_zHJc Website - https://trustshepherd.com/

Hi guys, I've created an open source web builder framework (https://grapesjs.com) years ago, which I'm still maintaining, and now I'm excited to publish a side project based on it, Grapedrop (https://grapedrop.com). It's a simple web page builder which allows you to design and publish your web pages very quickly. The project is still in beta with a lot of stuff to improve but I'd really like to share it and hear what people think about it and maybe also get some constructive feedback.

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…
