In plain words

Shishua is a fast pseudo-random number generator released in 2020. It is designed for developers and researchers who need efficient random number generation for computational tasks. The generator prioritizes speed while maintaining quality randomness, making it suitable for applications where performance is critical. Technical details and documentation are available on its project website.

Six months ago, I wanted to make the best PRNG with an unconventional design, whatever that design may be. I expected it to start easy, and slowly get harder; I wondered whether I would learn fast enough to pass the highest bar. Surprisingly, difficulty did not increase linearly. Passing the bytewise Chi-Squared tests was very hard! Then, when I got the concepts, passing dieharder was also very hard. When I got to that point, I was honestly so extatic, that I published what I got to learn what the next challenge needed to be. But it turned out it failed PractRand . But once I reached that point, I realized that speed was going to be an issue. It wasn’t just about having a construction that…from espadrine.github.io

Morning HN. Random number generation feels is a somewhat underrepresented topic in the C++ realm. There is a lot of questionable info about it found online and even the standard library is quite behind the times in terms of it's algorithms. It suffers from trying to accommodate sometimes impractical standard requirements and has several ways of getting significantly bad statistical results. This leaves a lot easily achievable performance & quality on the table. So, being a mathematician who mostly works with stochastic models and wants these models to run fast and well, I embarked on a…

LoopMix128 is a fast C PRNG I wrote for non-cryptographic tasks. GitHub (MIT): https://github.com/danielcota/LoopMix128 Highlights: * ~0.37 ns/value (GCC 11.4, -O3 -march=native), 98% faster than xoroshiro128++ and PCG64. * Passes TestU01 BigCrush & PractRand (32TB). * Guaranteed 2^128 period. * Proven injective (192-bit state) via Z3 SMT solver; allows parallel streams. * Core requires only stdint.h. Seeking feedback on design, use cases, or further testing.

  • https://github.com/OlexG/finclaw ^ repo if anyone wants to contribute. I realized that sometimes I'm pretty good at making random guesses about the future. (I.E, I think OpenAI will beat Anthropic in the short term, etc...) However, I'm bad at converting these guesses into actual market plays I can profit from. As such, I wanted to make a tool that connects to the right APIs and launches a swarm of agent experts to generate related plays based on your prediction. The very first super shitty V0 MPV just has Polymarket/Kalshi bets, but I will be adding a more complex…
