Make senders work to get into your inboxJul 2026 · captchainbox.com · ▲44Hi HN :) really excited to share this with you. The one thing AI reliably does is generate noise. Half the tools I see launch are just machines for producing more noise across more channels. And people are starting to see this in the form of emails in their inboxes as spam filters are struggling. There used to be a useful signal in email: the effort a sender put into customizing a message was a rough proxy for how relevant it actually was. AI killed that. Now it's customized slop with the appearance of effort with none of the cost. It is painful that the open internet / open channels…

Teapot – A methodology for pen testing voice AI agentsFeb 2026 · redcaller.com · ▲7Hello HN, I am Brian Cardinale, a penetration tester and security researcher at SecureCoders. We have been performing more and more AI based security assessments. We were presented a unique challenge of testing a system where the only interface was voice based, and as much as I like talking on the phone , we decided to create a test harness to facilitate the actual testing in a more systematic way. The technical test harness was the easy part, though. Creating test goals and attack strategies to help facilitate repeated and comprehensive testing became the real challenge. As such, we have…
Self-hosted voice AI agent for Asterisk/FreePBXJul 2026 · github.com · ▲32Hi HN folks ! I am the author of AVA, a self hosted AI Voice Agent that plugs into Asterisk/Freepbx so you own all the aspects of an AI Voice agent in your own infrastructure. It uses Asterisk native Audiosocket/RTP with python engine to run STT,LLM and TTS loop. The project support several full providers openai, gemini, grok, elevenlabs out of the box and also provides options to build custom pipelines by choosing different stt tts and llm. It also supports full local agent if you have a GPU with 25GB RAM which enables realtime conversation along with tool calling. I started this…
Sipp – Run small local LLMs in browser 3x fasterJun 2026 · sipp.sh · ▲5Hi HN! Sipp is an open-source AI inference library for running local models in browsers with up to 3x faster decode speeds than alternative libraries. My background is in HCI (human-computer interaction) and graphics programming. Me along with my co-founder have been experimenting and thinking a lot about what the next user experience will look like when tokens are commodified to the point of being essentially “free.” A motivation for us was to try to move beyond the chat app and information retrieval use cases that are dominant now, and figure out how AI could instead act as a continuous…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
