Sofka – much faster k9s alternative in Rust

Hi everyone, I was recently much frustrated with speed of k9s that I use regularly and decided to create a rust alternative that is much faster. Architecture comes from me, and (shocking) Fable coded most of the things. My whole company switched to it and experience has been great - much faster, integrated tightly with Flux/helm/externalsecrets and develops much faster. I know that there is an overall sentiment on HN with using LLMs, so YMMV. In terms of speed, you can check the benchmarks:…

What it does

A Kubernetes TUI, reimagined in Rust - built on kube-rs and ratatui, async-first from the ground up. - nklmilojevic/sofka

A Kubernetes TUI written in Rust, on kube-rs and ratatui . Async everywhere, so the UI never blocks on the cluster. sofka.rs - the website, with a watchable tour of a real session ( sofka.rs/#play ). That's Sophie, a Russian Blue. She sits behind the monitor and watches the screen. Constantly, not sometimes. She has the narrow-eyed look of someone who has seen a pod in CrashLoopBackOff . She catches every state change and doesn't get distracted. She is, in effect, a cluster watchman that is a cat. sofka is the Serbian short form of Sophia, which means "wisdom". A good cluster TUI and a good cat both watch things closely, and both know when something is wrong. sofka is a reimagining of k9s…from github.com

Raw performance (the lack of) is always a contentious point for JavaScript, especially in our post-Moore era of computing. Node.js gets around this issue through extensive of use of native libraries and modules written in C, including the V8 JS engine itself. But as application developers, how do YOU create high performance functions? Write in C and run as a NAPI module? Write in Rust and run as a V8 wasm? Well, there is another (better and faster) way now! The SSVM is a fully featured WebAssembly VM that is optimized for server-side applications.…

Over the past few months, as we scaled our internal AI Agents, we hit a dead end: Running LLM-generated arbitrary code in Docker is basically running naked on security due to container escape risks. But using full traditional VMs takes minutes to boot and eats too much memory to support high-density concurrency. We loved the developer experience of SaaS sandboxes on the market, but they are closed-source, expensive, and have too high a barrier to entry for self-hosting. So, our team decided to build our own. After months of grinding, using RustVMM and KVM, we built a blazing-fast,…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
