SOLAR Framework
Planet-first design system for digital experiences.
What it does
SOLAR is an open-source, planet-first design system built to fight digital bloat. It’s not just about pixel perfection; it’s about performance budgets and carbon footprints. Energy-Aware Components: Lightweight code that minimizes CPU load. Media Diet: Patterns that reduce heavy asset reliance without sacrificing aesthetics. Carbon Budgets: Sustainability baked into the design process, not added as an afterthought. Build better products. Burn less energy.

Hi HN! I quit my job two years ago to have more time to work on my side projects. The main one is an automated solar concentrator. I've just open-sourced it, it's not perfect nor finished, and I still have a lot of ideas for further development, but I'm interested in knowing what you think of it. There are many applications where concentrated solar power could be a viable environmental and economic solution, I hope this technology will one day be more widely used. Feel free to give any feedback and ask questions.

This is version 2 of my ongoing heirloom device project, a digital photo frame built with the goal of lasting longer than your typical gadget. There's a part of me that wishes to commercialize a polished version of this product, but the more I speak to people, the more I become convinced that I belong to a very small minority.

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
