SottoCraft

What it does

SottoCraft is a Windows desktop app for subtitle QC work. Unlike browser tools that upload your files or editors that cause sync drift, SottoCraft runs entirely local — no cloud, no subscription, no per-minute fees. Built-in AI transcription via Whisper, VLC-powered playback with zero seek drift, automatic audio quality flagging, spell check, character counter for broadcast compliance, foot pedal support, and export to SRT, VTT, TTML and ASS. One-time purchase.

  OpenBrief – Local-first video downloader/summarizerMay 2026 · github.com · ▲93

OpenBrief is basically a GUI for yt-dlp with some AI on top — paste a link, it downloads locally, and transcription and voice generation run with local AI on your machine. Summaries and chat over the transcript use an LLM, which is bring-your-own-key for now. It's open source and free.

  SixSevenStudio – open-source Video Editor For SoraNov 2025 · github.com · ▲6

It's a Mac desktop app that lets you iterate on storyboard, generate Sora videos, and edit them (stitching, trimming, transitions) to produce a long AI-generated video. It's MIT license and BYOK. We've found some fun use cases with Sora that are not brain-rot meme videos on the Sora app, for example: - Turning blog posts to video - Making launch videos - Making educational videos - (currently experimenting) Marketing Ads But we don't want to pay $200 for the max plan, so instead we built this to use our existing API credits. With this app, you have access to: 1. storyboard with a AI chat 2.…

  Talanoa▲346

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
