What it does
SpeakoFlow puts your voice over your whole desktop. Speak, and your words land in any app — email, editor, chat, terminal. Say "Hey Flow" and it writes the whole reply from what's on your screen. Ask the assistant about what you're looking at and hear the answer back. It also cleans up your dictation, translates as you speak, and learns how you work. Everything can run on your machine — speech-to-text always does. Free, open source, MIT. Windows, macOS, Linux.
A free, open-source voice assistant that runs on your own machine. Dictate into any app, have it write or translate, or ask about your screen.
Hold a key and talk. It types into any app, or answers a question about what is on your screen . Free and open source, on Windows, macOS, and Linux . The button above is the Apple Silicon build. On an Intel Mac, take the Intel disk image instead. Either way macOS needs one extra Terminal command on first install, see the guide . Press a key and speak. Your words type straight into any app: email, editor, chat. Watch them land live as you talk, or all at once when you stop. Say it, then ask in your own words: reply to a message, write an email, draft a prompt. Flow does the work and drops the result where you’re typing. Rename the trigger to anything you like. Speak in whatever comes…from speakoflow.com

SaylineJan 2026 · sayline.app · ▲83I built a voice dictation app for macOS mostly because I was tired of how awful Siri is and I didn't want to pay a subscription for cloud tools. The app uses NVIDIA's Parakeet v3 (TDT) as the primary engine. Inference is handled by the FluidAudio library. It's insanely fast on M-series chips. For Intel users, I added local Whisper support ranging from Tiny up to Large v3 Turbo (quantized to save space). The interesting part was the AI integration. I originally tried to pipeline the ASR output into Apple's Intelligence Foundation Model. It was a nightmare, because the content moderation…

Clipto MCP▲655Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
