Spud – cross-platform remote control, optimised for gaming

Over the last few weeks I've been working on Spud, an application that allows you to control a remote computer that you can see. For example, if you have a gaming PC connected to you TV, Spud lets you use a laptop as input. It's optimised for low-latency, as it's intended for gaming. There are even a few parameters you can tune in the application. I built this mainly for myself, to solve a particular problem I had, but I hope that others find it useful too!

What it does

A cross-platform remote control application, optimised for gaming. - xfoa/Spud

Spud solves the problem of wanting to play games on a computer attached your TV, from a laptop on your couch. It's a cross-platform remote control application that sends local input to a remote server, and is optimised for gaming. Input is as responsive as possible, and protocol parameters are tunable for latency and reliability. As it's intended to be used in a situation where you can already see the output from the server on another device, it doesn't accept video or sound output from the server. So you got yourself a wee gaming rig for your TV, but you don't have a controller or you prefer keyboard/mouse. Spud's got you: run the server on your gaming machine, and the client on your…from github.com

I wasn't quite sure if this qualified as "Show HN" given you can't really download it and try it out. However, dang said[0]: > If it's hardware or something that's not so easy to try out over the internet, find a different way to show how it actually works—a video, for example, or a detailed post with photos. Hopefully I did that? Additionally, I've put code and a detailed guide for the netboot computer management setup on GitHub: https://github.com/kentonv/lanparty Anyway, if this shouldn't have been Show HN, I apologize! SCTP is a low level protocol focused on reliable packet transmission. Unlike hopelessly flinging packets from one device to another, it makes sure that the packets are correct using CRC, removes duplicate packets, and allows for packets to be sent in any order. Going into an established library, I thought that everything was already implemented and that there wasn't anything to do until I went through the existing issues and organized all the tasks and decided on an order. • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
