Stanford class Jan 2012 email update

We're very excited for the forthcoming launch of Model Thinking. We're sorry not to have gotten in touch lately - we've been busy generating lots of content, and the system is working really well. Unfortunately, there are still a few administrative i's to dot and t's to cross. We're still hopeful that we'll go live very soon. But since we don't have a firm timeline right now, we'd rather leave this open and get back to you with a definitive date soon (rather than just promise you a date that's far enough in the future that we can feel confident about it). We'll let you know a firm date as…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

We're very excited for the forthcoming launch of Model Thinking. We're sorry not to have gotten in touch lately - we've been busy generating lots of content, and the system is working really well. Unfortunately, there are still a few administrative i's to dot and t's to cross. We're still hopeful that we'll go live very soon. But since we don't have a firm timeline right now, we'd rather leave this open and get back to you with a definitive date soon (rather than just promise you a date that's far enough in the future that we can feel confident about it). We'll let you know a firm date as soon as we possibly can. We realize that some of you will have made plans expecting the course to start in January, and we apologize for any difficulties that this delay may cause. The good news is that the course is looking great, and we're thrilled that over 40,000 people have signed up - we can't wait for the course to start! See you soon online! my feedback for Stanford AI course2011 · ▲6

    ~~~ The Good: 1) Video editing: This was a subtle but wonderful feature of the lectures. Specifically, editing out the lengthy seconds it takes the instructor to write out comments or equations made the viewing much more focused and engaging. I think this is an important feature because it really takes advantage of the medium and moves beyond one of the limitations of live, classroom teaching--pacing. 2) Short video clips: The short clips made it easy to consume the course in small nuggets completely up to the schedule of individual viewer. It also made it easy to review specific points…
    Hey HN, My co-founders and I have been working on a project for the last month or so, and we'd like to get your input on it. We wanted to hear your thoughts on what we're doing - so check out our landing page, and let us know what you think/understand. Does it sounds like something you guys would want to use? http://www.thesharedweb.com/alpha/intro We'll tell you guys more about exactly what we're doing as the conversation evolves, but we just wanted to see what the initial reaction is, and what you understand (i.e. are we describing it in a way that makes sense). Really excited to hear your…
    Mamba-Chat – A Chat LLM Based on State Space Models2023 · github.com · ▲9
    Hey everyone! Many of you might have come across the Mamba paper a few days ago, which introduced an LLM based on a state space model architecture. The Mamba architecture is quite useful as its complexity scales subquadratically with input length and is therefore way more efficient than transformer models: https://github.com/state-spaces/mamba I got really excited about the paper, so I decided to fine-tune the model on a chat dataset. It turns that this actually worked quite well! The model is quite suitable for casual chatting, which honestly surprised me given that it…
    Update on my startup - very overdue.2011 · ▲13
    When I see what some HN members have done in a weekend on their projects, it makes it hard to confess that it has taken us 1 year to get to this stage. I kept trying to make things perfect, but finally I have seen the light - it will never be perfect and even in its current state, I see so much we need to improve, but it's something. Instead of delaying even more, I thought I would release it to the best critics out there - HN say hello to MyProperty.com Hope to hear your feedback, criticism, thoughts.
    Luna Delivery – night packages for London2014 · ▲21
    Hi guys. We just launched last week in London, been pretty crazy so far. https://LunaDel.com/ Just wanted to get feedback re our front page and if there is anyone out there who has experience with logistics or similar services? Could use some help and just to chat with those in the industry. Working with a great team sourced from the Freelancer thread on here. It's a really great source of talent. Especially for us here in London, UK. If there's anyone of you in London who want to meetup or if you use the service, would love to hear your thoughts. Just mail me: [email protected]
    Osmoar: A Bayesian Suggestion Engine2010 · osmoar.com · ▲6
    A friend and I are launching an alpha first thing in 2011. We're trying to gain some momentum and whatnot, so we're opening early registration as of tonight. We're planning to develop a Bayesian network to derive suggestions. If you're interested in seeing our progress, check it out. Edit: Any and all suggestions, criticism, advice, etc is highly appreciated!
