Travelers should be able to find the host—not just the marketplace between them. Online travel agencies made vacation rentals easier to discover, but they also placed fees, commissions, and another company between guests and the people who operate the stay. StayThere gives hosts' own booking sites the same kind of unified search experience. Guests can explore destinations, check live availability, compare complete totals, and continue directly to the host's checkout. Hosts keep their brand and guest relationship. Travelers get a clearer path to the direct price. StayThere adds no booking commission. StayThere connects the booking systems professional hosts already rely on, bringing their…from staythere.ai

Hi Hackers, My wife and I have been slow traveling around the world for last 3 years, and our top travel hack that has saved us most amount of money is to book directly with Airbnb host. We usually rent for a month so savings in fees are easily ~$300 - $500 on each stay, i.e. about 15-20%. Not every host offers it we respect that, but there are so many hosts out there that would rather have you book directly via their website and we as guests want the same. The problem is these hosts can’t promote or say that on Airbnb. This inspired me to build OpenBnB.org, where I’ve started collecting…

Hey HN, Over the years, I’ve found myself frustrated with the extra fees Airbnb. While they provide a lot of convenience, the service fees often stack up to a point where they overshadow any potential savings. I started wondering if there was a way to connect directly with property hosts and skip the middleman entirely. That curiosity led me to build getaway.direct, a free Chrome extension that helps travelers save money. It works like this: 1. You browse listings on Airbnb. 2. The extension scans for direct booking links, host websites, or social media profiles where you can reach out to…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
