Tech, career, and personal wellbeing advice from HN users
Hi HN, I figured there are a lot of HN users on here who have a lifetime's worth of valuable tips & advice that they could share with fellow HN users, and that would be very helpful to the rest of us. So I decided to spend a couple of days creating a micro-site where HNers with valuable tips & advice to share, can share those personal-experience derived advice with those of us who would appreciate & benefit from said advice. Link to site: https://yoomter.com Enjoy!
Tech, career, and personal wellbeing advice from HN users launched on October 5, 2023 with 34 votes, #1,278 of 4,393 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.

Experienced HN community members can post tips and guidance drawn from their own experiences, while others browse and learn from this crowdsourced knowledge base. It's designed for professionals seeking practical insights from peers within the HN community on career development and personal growth topics.

I asked an HN member for feedback and she blew my mind2010 · slideshare.net · ▲453A few days ago, I responded to a comment by bloggergirl offering to read anyone's web copy and help. I shot off an email hoping for a paragraph or two of feedback on my startup's copy. Instead I received a professional, detailed deck of tons of invaluable well thought out feedback. It must have taken her an entire afternoon. Here's a link to it: http://www.slideshare.net/shereefb/recommendations-for-bettermeans To top it off, this isn't someone with a lot of free time on her hands, she's only days away from launching her own startup (page99test) This community blows my mind!
- HCHackerNewsers,com, find other hackers near you2010 · hackernewsers.com · ▲221
There's been lots of discussion recently about finding other HNers to talk to / bounce ideas off / work with, some Google spreadsheets were set up to share details but they were soon vandalised. I had a spare afternoon yesterday (which turned into a long day) and here's the result: http://www.hackernewsers.com/ It's only open to people with HN accounts, it lets you post your biography, location, skills etc. Anyway, I hope you like it and find it useful.

Like others on here, I was inspired by the "personal blogs" post :) [0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36575081 In proper HN fashion, the site is open-source and requires no JS! There's instructions on how to add/edit a blog on the Github README. [1] https://github.com/surprisetalk/blogs.hn Note that your blog might appear in blogs.json, but not on the site! Right now I'm using the following code to filter out blogs. Your blog might appear if you add more metadata: if ( 3 > 0 + !!blog.title + (blog.desc.length > 40) + !!blog.about + !!blog.now +…
HomeBrew HN – Generate personal context for content ranking2025 · hackernews.coffee · ▲129TLDR: Build a quick HN profile to see how little context LLMs need to personalise your feed. Rate 30 posts once, get a permanent ranked homepage you can return to. Our goal was to build a tool that allowed us to test a range of "personal contexts" on a very focused everyday use case for us, reading HN! We are exploring use of personal context with LLMs, specifically what kind of data, how much, and with how much additional effort on the user’s part was needed to get decent results. The test tool was a bit of fun on its own so we re-skinned it and decided to post it here. First time posting…
