In plain words
Terminal Phase is a space shooter game designed to run in the terminal. Launched in 2020, it offers arcade-style gameplay within a text-based interface, making it accessible to developers and users who prefer command-line environments. The game combines classic shooter mechanics with the unique constraint of terminal graphics, providing an alternative gaming experience for those working in terminal-heavy workflows or interested in experimenting with text-based games.

I'm pleased to announce that Terminal Phase , a space shooter game you can play in your terminal, has achieved version 1.0 . The game is completely playable and is a fun game (well, at least a number of playtesters told me they thought it was fun). It includes two levels (one of which is more balanced than the other), and more content is on its way (1.0 isn't the end!). You can see it being played above in cool-retro-term but it works in all sorts of terminals, including gnome-terminal and etc. I also released a video recently ( archive.org mirror ) of me doing a live playtest of the game and also showing off how to make new levels and program new enemies (which serves as kind of an…from dustycloud.org

Rebels in the sky – Terminal game about space pirates2024 · github.com · ▲242Rebels in the sky is a P2P multiplayer game about crews of space pirates roaming the galaxy to play basketball against each other. It's basically a basketball managerial game with some pirate-y stuff. It's a P2P game with no central server, built on top of libp2p. Players interaction are limited to playing games against each other and trading pirates. The game runs as a terminal application, meaning that you just need to run it from your terminal. You can try the game over ssh without installing: `ssh frittura.org -p 3788` My server is not very powerful and there is a limit to the number of…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey folks. Last year I was fortunate enough to sign a deal to write a book with my favorite technical publisher, The Pragmatic Bookshelf. When I started out as an Engineering Manager many years ago, I found that there wasn't a huge amount of material that specifically and practically helped me understand how to do my job. When you learn to program there's all of these amazing tutorials, examples and guides, but what was there for new managers? In response to this, a couple of years ago I started a blog over at https://www.theengineeringmanager.com which got a decent amount of…
