The Focus Button

Hardware device for ADHDers that blocks digital distractions

What it does

Distraction is one click away. Focus Button makes focus one press away. Focus Button is a hardware device that reshapes your digital environment for focus. Turn the dial, press the button, and Focus Bear blocks distracting apps and websites, switches on Do Not Disturb, and starts your session across your phone and computer. No digging through settings. No opening another app and getting waylaid by notifications. Make focus tactile, shape your environment, and get on with what matters.

A button that mutes your phone and blocks the sites that eat your day. Twist to set the time, press to start. Made by the team behind Focus Bear.

Twist to set the time, press to start. The Focus Bear app keeps the distractions out until your session ends. You've seen it: they sit down to study, the phone lights up, and an hour later the books are still closed. Nagging turns into a fight, and screen-time rules get argued over or worked around. The Focus Button gives your teenager a way to shut the distractions out themselves, so starting stops being a battle. Press start and notifications are silenced and the apps that derail them stay blocked until the timer ends. Not a reminder they can swipe away. They press it themselves. No passwords to crack, no parent app watching over their shoulder, so it doesn't become one more thing to…from button.focusbear.io

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
