The Slop Tells Checklist

Spot AI-written text in 60 seconds

What it does

AI writing leaves fingerprints: the hedge words, the rule-of-three lists, the "it's not just X, it's Y" cadence, the confident filler. Slop Tells is a free one-page checklist of the tells that give it away, so you can catch AI slop in your own drafts before you send them and in anyone else's before you trust them. No signup wall, no tool to learn. Read it once and you will never unsee the patterns.

Slop or not – can you tell AI writing from human in everyday contexts?Mar 2026 · slop-or-not.space · ▲19

I’ve been building a crowd-sourced AI detection benchmark. Two responses to the same prompt — one from a real human (pre-2022, provably pre prevalence of AI slop on the internet), one generated by AI. You pick the slop. Three wrong and you’re out. The dataset: 16K human posts from Reddit, Hacker News, and Yelp, each paired with AI generations from 6 models across two providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) at three capability tiers. Same prompt, length-matched, no adversarial coaching — just the model’s natural voice with platform context. Every vote is logged with model, tier, source, response…

    AISlop, a CLI for catching AI generated code smellsMay 2026 · github.com · ▲73

Hi, I’m Kenny, I’ve been building aislop. I starting working on this after using Claude Code, codex and opencode several times and noticing some slops. They aren’t syntax and passes most tests, they are patterns like empty catch blocks, useless comments, duplicated helpers, dead code and many more. So I built a tool to scan and check for these patterns and wired it into hooks so after each tool call, the agent checks for the slops. You can try it out with npx aislop scan. It’s all local and no code is transferred. Thank you.

    How to Kill the Dead InternetMay 2026 · chromewebstore.google.com · ▲10

Ok, so maybe "how to revive the internet" would be more accurate, but if you're reading this, I got your attention, right? Here's why I want you to read on: I built a free extension, D-slop, to disincentivize anyone from posting AI writing, and eventually images and video as well, on the internet. For writing, it checks known vocab and punctuation tells, as well as subtler tells related to cadence, and assigns it a score subject to an adjustable threshold. If the text fails, users have the option to flag offending text, hide it, or block the page entirely (with the option to see anyway). For…

Design slop is the feeling that tells you a website is purely AI-generated. This is an attempt to classify the design patterns behind it. Applying this scoring to recent ShowHN submissions shows that about a third of the submissions show medium to heavy design slop: https://slopcop.adriankrebs.ch/show How the scoring works: - A headless browser loads each site (Playwright) - A small in-page script analyzes the DOM and reads computed styles - Every pattern is a deterministic CSS or DOM check. There are false positives, but my manual QA run verified it’s maybe 5-10%. Is design…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
