Tidey

Hey HN! I built Tidey because my Desktop was always a mess. The problem: Files pile up on Desktop and Downloads. Screenshots, PDFs, random downloads. You save them "temporarily" and forget about them for months. The solution: Tidey sits in your menubar and watches those folders. When you're ready to clean up, it shows you each file one by one. You preview it, then click Delete (goes to Trash) or Keep (moves to ~/Documents/Kept/, organized by year/month). That's it. No complex rules, no automation magic. Just a fast way to make decisions about files you've been ignoring.…

What it does

Hey everyone! I built Tidey because my desktop was always a disaster. Screenshots, random downloads, files I saved "just for now" 3 months ago... you know how it goes. So I made this simple menubar app. It shows you files that have been sitting on your Desktop or Downloads folder for a while, and you just pick: delete it or keep it. Thats it. No fancy features, no AI, no subscription. Just a quick way to go through your files and finally clean things up. Would love to hear what you think!

Free menubar app for Mac that helps you clean Desktop and Downloads. Preview files, delete or keep with one click. No signup required.

Tidey quietly watches your Desktop and Downloads folders, then helps you quickly decide: Delete or Keep . That's it. Your temporary files, finally triaged. Watch how Tidey helps you go through files one by one. Delete, Keep, or Skip—it takes seconds per file. Screenshots, downloads, files you saved "temporarily" months ago. They pile up. They create chaos. They waste space. The fix isn't complicated. You just need a quick way to go through those files and decide what to do with them. Tidey shows you files that have been sitting in Desktop or Downloads for a while. For each file, you make one simple decision: delete it or keep it. Worth keeping? Move it to an organized folder where it…from trytidey.com

Hey HN Ex YC/Google engineer turned indie maker here - excited to share something I just shipped. The System Data in my Mac was taking up 300GB and it took me months to figure out how to clear the old cache, logs, junk and more. And CleanMyMac is a subscription - I refuse to pay subscription fees for Mac apps that run locally. So I built FreeUpMyMac an offline, lifetime Mac cleaner that clear junk with 1 click. And helps you visualize your storage with TreeMap/Sunburst. Hope it’s helpful to you as it is for me. Would love your feedback Tunde

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
