Tincta

Free, fast and simple open source text editor for Mac

Tincta launched on June 29, 2021 with 87 votes, #625 of 3,650 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 5 years on.

What it does

Tincta is intuitive to use on personal tasks like writing blog posts or grocery lists. But it also has all functionality you need for programming like syntax coloring, search & replace with RegEx, converting line endings and tabs & spaces, and much more.

Free one-window text editor for Mac with focus on speed, stability and ease of use.

Tincta is an elegant one-window text editor for macOS . It is intuitive to use on personal tasks like writing blog posts, drafting emails or jotting down grocery lists. But it also has all functionality you need for professional webdesign and programming. Until Fall 2022 Tincta was available on the Mac App Store. But as it is no longer compatible with macOS Ventura, we pulled it from the Store. And as Tincta is open source, you can still check out the repository and build it yourself (on Monterey or older Systems). This should not be too hard. Just take a look at the read-me. I'm not the author of the app (nor i have any connection with them, just a random user). iA Writer and Writer Pro aren't well suited for me as a developer. They feel quite "strange" to me. Mou is a good option (free too) but still missing some features. So far this, this editor is the most complete user-friendly. Hope it helps!

That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
