Tortoise TTS as an API
At-cost per-second API for the best text-to-speech model.
Tortoise TTS as an API launched on January 9, 2023 with 7 votes, #1,589 of 3,901 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.
What it does
Tortoise TTS is an open-source text-to-speech using GPT-3 like techniques for creating speech models, and generates comparable quality to all recently launched text-to-speech products. We built an open-sourced at-cost pay-per-second API for it.

Kitten TTS – 25MB CPU-Only, Open-Source TTS Model2025 · github.com · ▲1,003Kitten TTS is an open-source series of tiny and expressive text-to-speech models for on-device applications. We are excited to launch a preview of our smallest model, which is less than 25 MB. This model has 15M parameters. This release supports English text-to-speech applications in eight voices: four male and four female. The model is quantized to int8 + fp16, and it uses onnx for runtime. The model is designed to run literally anywhere eg. raspberry pi, low-end smartphones, wearables, browsers etc. No GPU required! We're releasing this to give early users a sense of the latency and voices…

Tortoise TTS as an at-cost open-source pay-per-second API2023 · twitter.com · ▲5Tortoise TTS is the best TTS available today. We built an open-source, at cost, pay per second API for it. The quality of intonation it generates is unparalleled, and we hope our at-cost API will make it easier for people to build on top! This allows folks to run via a single API call - it costs $0.03/query. The WAV file is downloadable, we apply no restrictions. We're open-sourcing all our work — we made Tortoise run 30% faster, and have more improvements coming. If you're keen to contribute we can help with ideas, pointers, compute and data; just DM us. Our fork with the improvements…

This works suprisingly well. Just give it instructions like "make it winter" or "remove the cars" and the photo is altered. Here are some examples of transformations it can make: Golden gate bridge: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/brycedrennan/imaginAIry/ma... I integrated this new InstructPix2Pix model into imaginAIry (python library) so it's easy to use for python developers.

The project is called QueryStorm. It uses Roslyn to offer C# (and VB.NET) support in Excel, as an alternative to VBA. I've posted about it before, but a lot has changed since then so figured I'd share an update. The current version includes a host of new features, namely a C# debugger, support for NuGet packages, and the ability to publish Excel extensions to an "AppStore" (which is essentially a NuGet repository). The AppStore can be used by anyone with the (free) runtime component. Another great addition is the community license, which is a free license for individuals and small companies…

Hey HN! Some more info: I’m an NHS doctor and the founder of Pi-A (https://www.pi-a.io) which developed Lungy (https://www.lungy.app). Lungy is an app (iOS only for now) that responds to breathing in real-time and was designed to make breathing exercises more engaging and beneficial to do. It hopefully has many aspects of interest to the HN community – real-time fluid, cloth and soft body sims running on the phone’s GPU. My background is as a junior surgical trainee and I started building Lungy in 2020 during the first COVID lockdown in London. During COVID, there were…
