In plain words
Tracking my local bus with a RaspberryPi is a DIY project that uses a Raspberry Pi computer to monitor local bus locations and schedules. It's designed for hobbyists and tech enthusiasts interested in real-time transit tracking. The project stands out by demonstrating how to repurpose affordable hardware to build custom transit monitoring solutions, making it accessible for anyone wanting to experiment with IoT and local data collection.

Let me tell you about a problem I have. It’s not really a big problem, but every time it happens I promise myself that I will never, ever let it happen again. But it did happen, again and again. So what actually is this problem I’m facing? I missed the bus by two seconds and now I have to wait 15 minutes for the next one. I’m coming out of my house and there it is, passing by right in front of me without stopping because I’m still a few seconds away from the stop. So, how do I step out of the loop and start avoiding this? Yes of course, I could just navigate through the local transport app and see the live bus arrival times. But, being a techy, I had to create a solution for this. And…from purplehoisin.com

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I made a thing! In 2014, I was holding a stack of iPhones and thought to myself: "Hey, if I had each phone display a playing card, I could click a button and they'd shuffle themselves" I pared that idea all the way down to this: trading cards made of e-ink displays. Right now, each card costs me about $20 each, but with only a bit more scale, I think I can get that down to $10. In doing this project, I learned how to design electronics and circuit boards. I learned Rust and wrote my first driver, I upped my CAD skills, 3D printed, and did my first resin casting. I generated the images on the…
