TransLite

Hello ! David from Spain here :) I built TransLite because I was tired of breaking my flow every time I needed to translate something before sending it. The usual workflow was: copy → open a browser tab → paste → translate → copy again → paste back. I've created a small macOS menubar app that lets you translate the current clipboard instantly using a keyboard shortcut, in any app. It works locally and supports using your own OpenAI / Claude API key. It’s intentionally simple — no accounts, no tracking, no subscriptions. Happy to answer any questions. Best regards, David

What it does

If you work in your second language, you probably open ChatGPT just to translate small things. TransLite removes that friction. With a single keyboard shortcut, it instantly replaces your text with a translation — in any app. Lightweight, minimal, and built for focus.

Press ⌘⇧T to translate anywhere on your Mac. Free plan included — no API key or credit card needed. A lightweight translation tool that lives in your menubar.

Select text anywhere on your Mac and translate it instantly. No tabs, no copy-paste loops — just a shortcut. Hey team! The Q4 report is looking great. Can someone translate the summary for our Madrid office? That's it. The translation appears right where you're typing. Press ⌘⇧T and the translation auto-pastes where you're typing. No extra steps. Slack, WhatsApp, your browser, email — works in any app you're using. Works out of the box, or bring your own OpenAI or Anthropicfrom translite.app

I caught myself copy-pasting into ChatGPT like 50 times a day. Too lazy for that, so I built a shortcut. Select text anywhere on Mac, press a hotkey — text gets rewritten / translated / summarized / whatever, right where you are. No tabs, no copy-paste dance. Native Swift app, hooks into macOS accessibility APIs. Bring your own API key and calls go straight to OpenAI / Anthropic. Or just use the free tier — 20 requests/day, no signup. https://aihotkeys.tech Curious for the feedback

Hey HN! I’m Christian, daily lurker and some might remember our original launch post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42935355). Today we're launching Pinch for Mac, which we believe is a step-change improvement in real-time AI translation. Our vision is to make cross-lingual conversations feel as natural as regular conversations. TL:DR During an online meeting, the app instantly transcribes and translates all audio you hear, and allows you to decide when you translate your voice and when you don't. It's invisible to others (like Granola), and works everywhere without any…

  • Hello my name is Ben Ward for the past 3 years I have been remastering the financial game Wall Street Raider created by Michael Jenkins originally on DOS in 1986. It has been a rough journey but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just recently redid the website and thought maybe the full story of how this project came to be would interest you all. Thank you for reading.
