Trolling SMS spammers with Ollama

I've been working on a side project to generate responses to spam with various funny LLM personas, such as a millenial gym bro and a 19th century British gentleman. By request, I've made a write-up on my website which has some humorous screenshots and made the code available on Github for others to try out [0]. A brief outline of the system: - Android app listens for incoming SMS events and forwards them over MQTT to a server running Ollama which generates responses - Conversations are whitelisted and manually assigned a persona. The LLM has access to the last N messages of the conversation…

In plain words

This project uses a local Ollama language model to automatically generate humorous responses to SMS spam. An Android app intercepts incoming texts and forwards them to a server, which generates replies using customizable personas like a millennial gym enthusiast or Victorian gentleman. Users manually assign personas to whitelisted conversations, and the system maintains context from previous messages. The code is available on GitHub for others to adapt and experiment with.

I occasionally get unsolicited texts from real estate brokers looking to buy specific properties in my hometown where I own no property and don't even live. I assume they scrape cell phone numbers from WhitePages and just spray-and-pray hoping to get a response. My parents own some undeveloped land in the middle of town which lies mostly in a flood zone and the usable acreage is much less than it appears on paper. Of course the brokers don't know this, so the prospect of buying up a big plot which has been vacant for decades for cheap probably gets their mouths watering. Over Christmas break I worked on a system for controlling my phone's SMS application over MQTT from a remote workstation…from evan.widloski.com

I spent the last few days building out a nicer ChatGPT-like interface to use Mistral 7B and Llama 3 fully within a browser (no deps and installs). I’ve used the WebLLM project by MLC AI for a while to interact with LLMs in the browser when handling sensitive data but I found their UI quite lacking for serious use so I built a much better interface around WebLLM. I’ve been using it as a therapist and coach. And it’s wonderful knowing that my personal information never leaves my local computer. Should work on Desktop with Chrome or Edge. Other browsers are adding WebGPU support as well - see…

  • I made an app to use local AI as daily driver2024 · recurse.chat · ▲637

Hi Hackers, Excited to share a macOS app I've been working on: https://recurse.chat/ for chatting with local AI. While it's amazing that you can run AI models locally quite easily these days (through llama.cpp / llamafile / ollama / llm CLI etc.), I missed feature complete chat interfaces. Tools like LMStudio are super powerful, but there's a learning curve to it. I'd like to hit a middleground of simplicity and customizability for advanced users. Here's what separates RecurseChat out from similar apps: - UX designed for you to use local AI as a daily driver.…

  • WhatsApp-Llama: A clone of yourself from your WhatsApp conversations2023 · github.com · ▲124

Hello HN! I've been thinking about the idea of a LLM thats a clone of me - instead of generating replies to be a helpful assistant, it generates replies that are exactly like mine. The concept's appeared in fiction numerous times (the talking paintings in Harry Potter that mimic the person painted, the clones in The Prestige), and I think with LLMs, there might actually be a possibility of us doing something like this! I've just released a fork of the facebookresearch/llama-recipes which allows you to fine-tune a Llama model on your personal WhatsApp conversations. This adaptation can…

Hey everyone, We have been building SecureAI Tools -- an open-source application layer for ChatGPT and ChatPDF-like AI tools. It works with locally running LLMs as well as with OpenAI-compatible APIs. For local LLMs, it supports Ollama which supports all the gguf/ggml models. Currently, it has two features: Chat-with-LLM, and Chat-with-PDFs. It is optimized for self-hosting use cases and comes with basic user management features. Here are some quick demos: * Chat with documents using OpenAI's GPT3.5 model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br2D3G9O47s * Chat with documents…

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
