UptimeBar

What it does

UptimeBar is a simple OS X menu bar app that notifies you if any of your websites are down. It connects to the UptimeRobot API to get up to date information every few seconds. UptimeRobot is trusted by over 500,000 users, meaning you can be sure we'll notify you as soon as something is wrong!

An independent, open-source rebuild of the original UptimeBar (Squarecat’s discontinued Mac app) — free, for Mac and Windows. Watch every monitor across UptimeRobot, BetterStack, Healthchecks.io and watch4.me, with native alerts the moment something goes down.

An independent rebuild of the original UptimeBar — Squarecat’s paid Mac app, discontinued years ago. Unaffiliated, free and open source, now on Mac and Windows across four providers. Native alerts the second something goes down. Free · macOS 10.13+ · Windows 10/11 · all downloads & install notes Lightweight, honest, and provider-agnostic — built to feed watch4.me , but genuinely useful with whatever you already run. The tray icon reflects aggregate up/down at all times. Open the popover for every monitor, with latency and “down for Xm” inline. A native OS notification fires the moment a monitor flips up↔down — no SMS needed. The first poll sets a silent baseline, so no startup notification…from uptimebar.app

  my new app Timebar has a clever UI (I think)2013 · whimsicalifornia.com · ▲81

I think it has a pretty innovative UI feature, so I wanted to float it by Hacker News. It's a timer app that turns your Mac's menu bar into a sort of virtual hourglass. Your menu bar starts out tinted blue (or whatever colour you pick) and it slowly drains from right-to-left until your time is up. It works very well for situations where you want to keep track of time, but don't need to be super precise. The menu bar is easy to glance up at, and it doesn't take long to happen…

  Talanoa▲345

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
