VariantWise

Find the car variant that's actually worth your money

What it does

Every site tells you which car to buy. VariantWise tells you which variant is worth the money. It reads each model's full trim ladder, says which step up pays and which is overpriced, and answers like a knowledgeable friend: reasons stated, trade-offs said out loud. On-road prices are computed from state governments' own tax rules, every figure with its source. Nothing unverified is shown, and nobody pays for a ranking. Free, no login, no lead capture.

Every variant of India's mainstream cars compared: prices, features, on-road costs city by city, and plain advice on which trim is worth the money.

Every car is sold in several variants: same shape, different kit, different price. Crash tests, long-term reviews and owner reports, distilled per car. Never the maker's marketing, and never only the good news. + Five-star Bharat NCAP result, 29.86 of 32 for adults and 44.95 of 49 for children + Five-star Bharat NCAP protection on the 2026 facelift, 30.58 of 32 for adults + Five-star Bharat NCAP result, 30.08 of 32 for adults, among the first cars India tested Shown once a car has enough independent evidence behind it. Every score links to its sources on the car's page, and the research is refreshed daily. Cars expected in the next few months. Unless a card says the maker has confirmed it,…from variantwise.com

Each dot on the chart is a car. Horizontal scale = mileage. Vertical scale = price. The size of a dot = year (newer = larger), plus I colored 2007 .. 2011 in different colors to find "fresh" cars quicker. This is just some sample data from the last 24 hours, relatively cheap cars under $32,000 within 500 mile radius of NYC.

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
