    VeloPlanner – A cycling route planner focusing on official routes2025 · veloplanner.com · ▲20

Hi HN! I'm an avid cyclist who took the leap a few months ago to quit my job and focus 100% on building VeloPlanner – a tool I wished existed for my own cycling adventures. VeloPlanner helps cyclists plan routes by prioritizing official, signposted cycling paths across Europe, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. What makes this different: - Focus on official cycling routes rather than just shortest path algorithms - Comprehensive POI integration (campings, hotels, attractions) - Detailed surface information (asphalt, gravel, forest trails) This is a solo founder project that I'm now…

Bike route planner that follows almost only official bike trails2024 · trailimap.com · ▲279

Hey guys, I built a route planner that is mostly focused on bike touring and using existing bike infrastructure. For each request you're shown what bike tracks/trails your route uses and can further explore them by showing them on map or going to the official trail route. The main idea for the app is to have a friendly and easy to use planner that would make heavy use of official bike trails data (mainly from OpenStreetMap) and make it easy to plan a longer trip using the best possible bike routes out there. Currently the app only works for the Euro region but I'm planning to add North…

    3D Terrain simulation for hiking, skiing etc.2025 · github.com · ▲150

I'm working on a GPS track visualizer for quite some time. It shines in hilly and mountaineous terrain (where a 3D view makes more sense), but it also offers quite a lot of Strava-like features (statistics etc.). You can upload your GPX and FIT files manually, or sync directly with Garmin, Coros and Polar. See https://cubetrek.com for the live app and check out some examples there. It's free and opens source. Also, anyone who likes to work with 3D visualizations (especially Babylon.js), let me know if you like to help polish this thing further.

Hey folks! A bit of background: I'm a software engineer by trade, but I'm currently on sabbatical doing a year-long working holiday in Australia. I love riding bikes but only had the most beginner-level knowledge of them before I found a job at a bike shop. This was a fun personal project to try to capture some of what I've learned so far, targeted at fellow beginners. It's going to be incomplete/lacking if you already have some bike knowledge, but I hope you all enjoyed it all the same. Please keep the feedback coming; it's late in Australia, but I want to make sure the bike info is at…

I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
