VETO

Think before you spend.

What it does

VETO is a decision-intelligence tool for purchases. Instead of simply asking whether you can afford something, VETO helps you evaluate whether buying it actually makes sense. Enter a purchase, consider its cost, usage, affordability and value, and get a clear decision with reasoning behind it. No account, no financial data stored, no complicated spreadsheets. Just a better way to think before you spend.

Should you buy it? VETO is a free purchase decision calculator that helps you evaluate affordability, value, timing and cost per use before you spend.

VETO is a free purchase decision calculator designed to help you think before you spend. It evaluates affordability, value, timing and cost per use so you can make a more informed purchase decision. Instead of asking only whether you can afford something, VETO helps you consider whether buying it makes sense for your current financial situation and how much value you are likely to get from the purchase. Enter the details of a purchase and VETO evaluates the decision using your income, expenses, expected usage and ownership period. The result provides a simple BUY, WAIT or DON'T BUY outcome. VETO is a decision-making tool, not a financial advisor. Your purchase information is processed…from veto.vartomlabs.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
