A MacBook goes to sleep the moment you close the lid, and so does whatever it was doing: the Claude Code session halfway through a refactor, the Codex run, the video export, the build. Vigil lives in your menu bar and keeps the Mac awake with the lid shut, with nothing plugged in, and then puts it to sleep the moment the job is done. It does not simply hold the Mac awake and forget. Tick the agents and apps you use and Vigil holds while they work and lets go after a quiet window you choose. Claude Code hooks tell it the exact moment a session starts and stops. Your own switch, a timer, the screen lock, a weekly schedule and Shortcuts can hold too, and any of them keeps the Mac up. I made OwnTime to balance between competing priorities in my life. The idea is based on two main influences: the concept of "roles" from "The 5 Choices" (2015), and my repeated failure to effectively implement time blocking due to the necessary flexibility in my role.
