Vim file browser that runs in separate terminal
Nowadays I spend a lot of time in Claude Code and reviewing diffs and code in Vim. I didn't want to learn Vim's window management, so I created a Vim file browser that can run in its own tmux pane.
Vim file browser that runs in separate terminal launched on May 13, 2026 with 6 votes, #1,742 of 20,538 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.

Dwm.tmux – a dwm-inspired window manager for tmuxJan 2026 · github.com · ▲101Hey, HN! With all recent agentic workflows being primarily terminal- and tmux-based, I wanted to share a little project I created about decade ago. I've continued to use this as my primary terminal "window manager" and wanted to share in case others might find it useful. I would love to hear about other's terminal-based workflows and any other tools you may use with similar functionality.

Zxc – Rust TLS proxy with tmux and Vim as UI, BurpSuite alternative2025 · github.com · ▲106Ditch Burp Suite’s bloat for zxc, a Rust-built, terminal-based proxy that uses tmux and Vim to intercept HTTP/S and WebSocket traffic. It captures requests for debugging, security testing, or tweaking—fast and lean. # Key Features - Disk Wizardry: Stashes massive datasets on disk-100k+ entries without breaking a sweat. - Addons: Boost your workflow with default support for ffuf and sqlmap, or craft your own addons for extra fun. - Buffer Tweaks: Edit variables in a popup (e.g., b:host, b:scheme) in Interceptor/Repeater to twist requests. - Config Control: TOML files for global…

Using Vim as an input method editor (IME) for X11 apps2022 · github.com · ▲132As a Vim user, I often use Vim to write some text and then copy & paste it into another text field of GUI apps (e.g. browsers, chat apps, etc.), because almost all of these text fields provide only very basic editing functions. A while ago, I came up with an idea: what if we could use Vim as an IME? Ordinary IMEs are used to input some non-English characters, but the essential functions of IME are 1) receiving a keyboard sequence 2) process the key sequence and outputting a text These functions are the same as text editor's. So I thought implementing an IME that can be used with Vim…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
