What it does
Vinyl turns your Mac desktop into a beautifully animated record player. It syncs with Spotify and spins every album you're listening to in real time. It quietly lives in the background while you work. $9.99, one-time purchase.
A photorealistic turntable on your Mac desktop. Connects to Spotify and Apple Music. Stays out of your way. Spinning platter, tonearm, and original artwork on real wood. The whole scene is rendered live on your desktop. Vinyl is the only macOS app that renders a full turntable with this level of detail. Vinyl works on its own. Play a track in Spotify or Apple Music and the sleeve and now-playing details update automatically. No login needed. Album art, track name, and artist appear in real time. Close the window and Vinyl keeps playing behind a quiet menu bar icon. Launches at login if you want it to. Toggle off Vinyl's built-in background so the turntable sits directly on your own…from vinylformac.com

I made a free app to calibrate your turntable by simply playing a song2024 · grooved.okat.best · ▲452Hey there! I made a little app that lets you to calibrate your turntable by putting on any record and tapping a button. It's called Grooved and it uses your phone's microphone to see how fast your platter is going, almost like magic. You can see what it looks like in action here: https://twitter.com/OKatBest/status/1795453042994680148 The app itself is free without ads, subscriptions, or trackers. It's a tool I built for myself, and I just thought someone else might want to use it too. I have never seen this technology being used before, all other apps require you to…

Clipto MCP▲655Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
