TL;DR version: I made a macOS journaling app that use Foundation Models to analyze entries for mood + written themes, and also has voice transcription, because I couldn't find any other journaling app that does those things. OK, now for the longer, I-rambled-too-much version: For the past few weeks I've been working on a macOS journaling app called VoxThermic. The idea for it came from my own journaling habits, where my mood tends to shift a lot depending on whatever I'm dealing with. I've tried some journaling apps, but I've never found one that can analyze mood or see how my mood changes…

What it does
VoxThermic is a macOS journaling app that helps you discover patterns in your thoughts over time. It uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models and Natural Language framework to analyze journal entries locally, so your private journal never leaves your Mac. You can type or simply ramble out loud using built-in voice transcription, and everything works offline.
VoxThermic is a Mac journaling app I built for myself — track mood over time from your writing, ramble out loud with on-device transcription, everything stays private on your Mac.
Journaling isn't only about what you wrote last night, but also about showing how you feel across days, weeks, and months. VoxThermic turns private voice and text entries into a living map of your moods and writing themes. Almost like weather patterns. And it does it all on your Mac. Requires macOS 26.4+ and Apple Silicon. Free to use, with optional premium . First launch: check for updates once so you're on the latest build. Most journals are great at capturing a day, but not many can answer the simple question of "how have I actually been, over the past week or month or year?" And not many are built to make talking to a journal as easy as typing. VoxThermic was built to be good at both.…from voxthermic.jbri.workers.dev

Rocket Journal2025 · rocketjournal.app · ▲218Hi HN! I just launched Rocket Journal, a voice-first journaling app designed to make reflection as easy as talking. Key ideas: Rant mode — vent freely, no judgment Reflect mode — guided prompts to help dig deeper AI insights — mood tracking, patterns, helpful takeaways Stickers & scrapbook — journaling feels lighter and fun Privacy-first — your data isn’t used to train models I built this because journaling apps often feel like “work.” I wanted something that felt like having a safe, responsive companion for those late-night thoughts or walks outside. I’d love feedback from the HN community:…

- DJDlog – Journaling and AI coach that learns what drives wellbeing (Mac)Oct 2025 · dlog.pro · ▲47
Hi HN! I’m Johan. I built Dlog, a journaling app with an AI coach that tracks how your personality, daily experiences, and well-being connect over time. It’s based on my PhD research in entrepreneurial well-being. Edit: here's a video demo so you can see it before downloading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74C4P8I164M - it's unvarnished but I'm told that's how people like it here :) How Dlog works - Journal and set goals/projects; Dlog scores entries on-device (sentiment + narrative signals) and updates your personal model. - A built-in structural equation model (SEM)…

I might be the only SRE on Earth with his own bowling center. It's a more in-depth gig than you'd think. My family and I bought an abandoned 8-lane bowling center in the rural mid-west. In our small town there weren't many recreation options for families. You've heard of a food desert? This is an R&R desert. It had been abandoned for a good reason. The roof leaks, the electrical system was constantly surging, and my 70-year-old bowling equipment (still) doesn't work perfectly. The system that keeps your score is particularly interesting to me. It's the thing you watch during your game, but…

Over the past few months, our team has been building more and more slidedecks using web frontend technologies with coding harnesses like Claude Code, but a common complaint is to make even small edits we need to edit the code either manually or via the harness. To avoid this loop, I ended up creating Bento, a single HTML file with everything you need in a slide tool including animations and shared editing. There's no install or cloud login, everything works offline. The default deck is around 560 KB and it doesn't need to fetch anything once you got it. Open it in a browser and then you can…

A few days ago I found myself trying out GLM 5.2 and was really positively impressed. The capabilities and security I was getting from this LLM are similar to those I've gotten from models like Claude or GPT, and this really surprised me. But then I thought, "I wonder how it would work on a normal computer like mine," and above all, "I wonder if it would work without going into OOM on a computer like mine." So I started working with the help of agents to test this possibility. I started converting the model to int4, understanding MTP usage, and if possible implementing DSA for long context.…

OpenSEO▲928Hello! For the last 2 months, I've been building OpenSEO. It's a user friendly UI wrapping the DataForSEO API which has high quality SEO data for keywords, backlinks, AI SEO and competitor research. Instead of paying $100+ per month, you buy DataForSEO credits and pay only for usage. The coolest thing about the project so far has been hearing about what people are building on top of it. People are using coding agents to quickly integrate with Google Search Console, Google Ads and building their own AI SEO and reporting features. Many were already building their own custom solutions around…
