VPS Host Review

Open-source CLI to benchmark any Linux VPS

What it does

vhr-bench is a free, open-source command-line tool that measures what a Linux VPS actually delivers: processor throughput and memory bandwidth via sysbench, and random 4k read/write IOPS via fio. It is a single readable Bash script. It prints the exact JSON it will send and asks for your confirmation before anything leaves your server. It never collects your hostname, IP, files, or credentials. Upload a result to compare your box against real ones from other people's servers.

Free, open-source command-line tool to benchmark your VPS CPU, memory, and disk. See the exact results before you share them, then attach them to your review.

A free, open-source command-line tool that measures the real performance of any Linux VPS: processor, memory, and disk. It shows you the exact results before anything leaves your server, so you always see what you are sharing. curl -fsSL https://github.com/vpshostreview/vhr-vps-benchmark/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sudo bash The install script and the tool itself are open source. Read the source before you run anything as root. View it on GitHub . curl -fsSL https://github.com/vpshostreview/vhr-vps-benchmark/releases/latest/download/uninstall.sh | sudo bash This removes the tool and offers to remove the benchmark packages it installed (sysbench and fio). It leaves curl in place,…from vpshostreview.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
