What it does

A previous version of this graphic incorrectly listed Dec. 4 prices of $0 for electronics items, 0% apparel discounts and 0 apparel items on sale. Also, a previous correction incorrectly said the wrong prices were for Dec. 5. An earlier version of the apparel chart included prices from Nordstrom and Kohl's, but they were removed because the data wasn't comparable. The Wall Street Journal worked with data-analysis firm Thinknum , which tracked prices daily for each item on Gap, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Kohl's, Nordstrom, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Toys 'R' Us and Wal-Mart's websites, starting Oct. 1, 2017.
