What's Running MCP
Stop AI agents from reporting dead services as live
What's Running MCP launched on August 4, 2026 with 1 votes, #11,494 of 23,274 launches that month.
What it does
Every agent session starts blind. It reads a stale doc or an old transcript, decides your dev server is running, and health-checks a process that died three weeks ago. Model memory is a cache with no invalidation. Five read-only tools answer from the OS instead: live agent sessions (pid, uptime, cwd), every TCP LISTEN socket and its owning process, loaded daemons, load/disk. No shell, no writes, no network. MIT and free. claude mcp add --scope user whats-running -- npx -y whats-running-mcp
MCP server exposing live machine ground-truth (processes, listening ports, daemons, load) to agent fleets — stop guessing what's actually running. - stcmain/whats-running-mcp
Ground truth for agent fleets. An MCP server that tells your AI agent what is actually running on the machine — live agent sessions, listening TCP ports, loaded daemons, system load — read straight from the OS ( ps / lsof / launchctl / df ), never from docs, transcripts, or memory files. If you run more than one coding-agent session (Claude Code, Codex, Aider…), you've seen this failure mode: an agent "health-checks" a server that died weeks ago, or confidently reports a daemon as live because an old transcript said so. Model memory is a cache with no invalidation. The OS is the source of truth. This server started as a shell script ( whats-running ) I wrote after my own fleet of Claude…from github.com

Hey HN, I’m Austin, founder of Salestrics (salestrics.com). The Problem: > Most AI agents today are trapped in chat windows. While models are smart enough to run complex multi-step workflows, giving them production access to business context (CRM, support, billing) usually means managing unsafe local API keys or hacking together fragile point-solution scripts. What We Built: We built Salestrics to serve as both an all-in-one revenue workspace (CRM, service desk, billing, docs, email) and a production-grade Model Context Protocol (MCP) execution proxy. How It Works: Unified Context: Instead…
MCPGod: Fine-grained control over MCP clients, servers, and tools2025 · github.com · ▲37Hey everyone, I've wanted an easy way to control which mcp server tools are available to clients. So for example, I might want a gmail server to only expose the read tool (but not send, delete etc). I figured if I create a cli for spawning mcp servers, I could intercept the stdin, stdout, stderr etc and modify what the clients see when they are making calls to list tools, resources, and prompts. Well it worked! In the initial version you can easily add a server to claude with a safe list of tools: npx -y mcpgod add @modelcontextprotocol/server-everything --client claude --tools=echo,add…

Clipto MCP▲655Hey HN, We recently built Clipto. It’s a tool that lets you search over terabytes of video, audio, and images on your computer, without relying on the cloud. Motivation: we probably all had this similar experience, we know a moment exists in a video or audio, but finding it takes hours scrubbing the timeline. You can send all the media to process in the cloud, but it’s slow, expensive and raises privacy concerns. So we decided to build our own on-device media search engine. How it works (high level): 1. We ingest video, audio, image; normalize formats via ffmpeg; run content analysis to…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…
