WildcatDB – A persistent key-value store built for concurrency
Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a great day. Today I’m sharing an experimental open-source project I’ve been working on for the past few months called Wildcat. Wildcat is an embedded persistent storage engine implementing an lsm tree similar to RocksDB and or LevelDB. The motivation for this system was to try to solve the multi-writer bottlenecks that most embedded systems incur. With that, during my journey with storage systems especially the log structured flavour I’ve implemented a lot of interesting optimizations and algorithms in regards to the write and read paths. I hope you…
WildcatDB – A persistent key-value store built for concurrency launched on June 15, 2025 with 13 votes, #1,425 of 7,999 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
In plain words
WildcatDB is a persistent key-value store designed to handle concurrent operations efficiently. Built for developers and applications requiring reliable data storage with high concurrency support, it offers a straightforward approach to storing and retrieving key-value pairs while maintaining data persistence. The project is available on GitHub for developers interested in integrating or contributing to the codebase.

ScratchDB – Open-Source Snowflake on ClickHouse2023 · github.com · ▲261Hello! For the past year I’ve been working on a fully-managed data warehouse built on Clickhouse. I built this because I was frustrated with how much work was required to run an OLAP database in prod: re-writing my app to do batch inserts, managing clusters and needing to look up special CREATE TABLE syntax every time I made a change. I found pricing for other warehouses confusing (what is a “credit” exactly?) and worried about getting capacity-planning wrong. I was previously building accounting software for firms with millions of transactions. I desperately needed to move from Postgres to…
A Database Written in Golang2025 · github.com · ▲277Recently created a minimal persistent relational database in Go. Main focus was on implementing & understanding working the of database, storage management & transaction handling. Use of B+ Tree for storage engine(support for indexing), managing a Free List (for reusing nodes), Support for transactions, Concurrent Reads. Still have many things to add & fix like query processing being one of the main & fixing some bugs Repo link - https://github.com/Sahilb315/AtomixDB Would love to hear your thoughts

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
