YiCast
I Ching divination with real-time physics and AI readers
What it does
Most I Ching apps treat coin casting as a random number generator. YiCast simulates it with a real physics engine, you shake your phone or swipe the screen to throw three coins onto a 3D table, and watch them bounce and settle naturally. After six throws build your hexagram, consult one of five AI character readers: a scholar, sage, mystic, strategist, or romantic, who each interpret the classical texts through their own personality. 64 hexagrams. 365 daily proverbs. 10 languages. Free to try.

- ICI Ching simulator with accurate Yarrow Stalk probabilitiesDec 2025 · castiching.com · ▲63
I built this because I wanted a digital I Ching that honors the original math, rather than just Math.random(). Technical detail for the curious: The simulation follows the traditional Yarrow Stalk algorithm (Da Yan). The core of this algorithm relies on modulo-4 arithmetic on the stalks remaining after a random split. To make it physically realistic, I used a Box-Muller transform to simulate the user splitting the stalks with a Gaussian distribution (since humans naturally tend to split near the middle), rather than a uniform random split. I was worried this 'human bias' might skew the…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…
