Zipped Album
Having read several comments in other threads about frustrations with digital music and streaming, I thought this could potentially be interesting to some of you. It's a very small attempt at bringing back an experience that we seemingly lost when going fully digital. When I was looking around whether something like this already existed, I could only find some commercial (and discontinued) attempts, but nothing based on open standards. So I made a draft of what I think an open single-file music album format could look like. It is very simple, and basically just a specification of how to…
What it does
In the maker’s words, at launch
Having read several comments in other threads about frustrations with digital music and streaming, I thought this could potentially be interesting to some of you. It's a very small attempt at bringing back an experience that we seemingly lost when going fully digital. When I was looking around whether something like this already existed, I could only find some commercial (and discontinued) attempts, but nothing based on open standards. So I made a draft of what I think an open single-file music album format could look like. It is very simple, and basically just a specification of how to combine several already existing formats into one file. It is also compatible with the ZIP files you get when downloading a FLAC album from Bandcamp. While some players (Foobar2000, DeaDBeeF) should already be able to play this format, I also made a cross-platform (desktop) demo player that fully supports the suggested format (including the digital booklet). I am aware that this is not going to gain a lot of traction, but I am sharing this as it might still be useful to individuals.
Does the same job

Hey HN! I've been working on Muxamp for over a year now, and I decided that there's no point in keeping the source closed. (I never planned on making money from it.) I've learned a lot since I started, and I hope others can benefit from its release--and perhaps teach me a thing or two as well :)

- ATA tool to organize, streamline and share your music discoveries2022 · ▲9
I love music and I'm always trying to discover new music that I can enjoy. In the past years I was using a fairly tedious process of organizing the music albums (or DJ sets, radio shows) in a few lists: - Want to Listen - Listened - Listened (and liked) I wanted to keep track of these lists, what I discovered each month/year and share all this activity and lists with my friends. For that, I was using a combination of tools that weren't made exactly for this job (Discogs+Spotify+IM apps), resulting in a cumbersome experience. So a few months ago I started this hobby project, with the…
- FAForte, an open-source self-hosted music platform with lots of features2023 · github.com · ▲6
Hey everyone, I've made a project to make your own music archive streamable and turn it into a complete music platform. The reason I've been working on this project for a while was to stream the CD's I've had at home without any cost and also make a nice looking system to manage and listen to these albums. You can host your own server and use the web player to connect. Also, it is possible to create users and give them access to your own server. Some features of the current release are group sessions, endless listening with radio, fuzzy searches, showing lyrics and specialized context menus.…

Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…
